General Business/Management Strategies

Social Security number verification more important than ever
With Congress debating immigration reform, employers need to understand what information they can and cannot gather to verify the status of employees and prospective employees.

Wealth Advice/Estate Planning

What are you teaching your children about money?
Most successful people didn’t have success handed to them. They had to work for it. In doing so, they learned the habits and values that lead to success. So what are we teaching our children if we give them money and luxuries, and don’t require anything of them in the bargain?

Family Business/Succession

Family vs. nonfamily: Equality important when determining promotions, raises
Forget for a minute that you own or work for your family’s business. Imagine instead that you have worked hard for the business for five years, but you’re not related to the family. The owner likes your work and says so often. A business expansion creates a new management position. Your co-workers tell you that you are perfect for the job. They encourage you to apply, and you do.

Physician Services

Resolve turf disputes before they begin
One way to resolve turf disputes in the practice is not to have them in the first place.

Nonprofit Organizations

‘Umbrella’ fund-raising? The pros and the cons
There are a number of organizations that raise funds for nonprofit organizations. These umbrella organizations can bring new funds and enhance your agency’s fund-raising efficiency. But by themselves, they are not a replacement for a sound agency fund-raising program, and there are costs – fiscal and other – to working with them.

Business Tips

Controlling Cash Flow - Reduce labor costs with part-timers – you don’t have to provide fringe benefits. It costs you 20-40 percent less to hire two part-timers to fill a full-time job than it costs for one full-timer.

Wealth Tips

Your Planning - Don't overlook tax planning. Maximize the use of capital gain rates. Look for tax-deferred investments and other ways your taxes can be reduced.
