Our Service to our Community
"We can always count on our good friends at MHC&S - not only for their accounting and auditing expertise, but also for their support of our programs especially our "Bowl for Kids Sake" fundraiser. This event is held during their busy tax season and regardless, they always show up with two or three teams of MHC&S bowlers. It is greatly appreciated."

Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowl for Kid's Sake, 2007

McGowen, Hurst, Clark & Smith believes in and encourages our professionals to have strong community involvement. In addition to our many group events of volunteering, each team member is given 8 hours per year of paid of VTO (Volunteer Time-Off) to assist a charity of their choice. The talents and leadership abilities of our professionals are evidenced in their volunteering and active participation in a wide variety of organizations. We believe no firm can be stronger than its community. We are proud of this long-standing support and ongoing effort of involvement in the community.
As a company, we participate in and sponsor a number of community events. Just to name a few, we have participated in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, Des Moines Art Festival, Day Care for Exceptional Children, Toys for Tots, Food Bank of Des Moines, Women’s Shelter of Des Moines, Wildwood Camp for Children, Prevent Child Abuse, Youth Emergency Services Shelter and many more.

While our community service participation helps us reaffirm our dedication to the Greater Des Moines nonprofit sector, it also offers us an opportunity to recognize first-hand the impact of our work and its value, and come together with like-minded friends who want to make things in our community today a little better than they were yesterday.

| MHC&S also supports our business communities. We are a member of the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce, and are active members in eight other area chambers including the Madison County Chamber of Commerce, where our Winterset office is located.
Professional Affiliations
MHC&S is a member of CPAmerica International, an exclusive association of leading independent accounting firms. CPAmerica offers a wide pool of additional technical expertise to its members' firms, as well as continuing professional education necessary to maintain the degree of excellence which we feel is vital in today’s business environment. We are also an active member of the Iowa Society of CPA’s and the American Institute of CPA’s.
